Found deep in the heart of Nyanga National Park Mt Nyangani (formerly Mount Inyangani) is the highest mountain in Zimbabwe. This gigantic mountain rises up to 2592m in height, its peak is a 1-3 hour climb trekking from any of the 4 base-entry points for anyone of average fitness. One of the things you will find true about it, is the promise of a challenging climb to remember for mountain hikers and bikers.

Mt. Nyangani’s vegetation is composed of heath covering its summit plateau, a dense grassland on the western side and an ever-green forest along the damper eastern slopes.

The park area itself, is known for a variety of wildlife such as the gnu/wildebeests, the zebras, the kudus, the waterbucks, the reedbucks, the blue duikers, the Samango monkeys and the klipspringers. In addition, the park is also home to predators like the leopards and the hyaenas while lions which stray into the region from Mozambique are occasionally sighted.

Rich History

Formerly known as Rhodes Inyanga National Park, the Park was first established in 1926 and has an area of 472 km2. The core areas of the park were once the private estate of Cecil John Rhodes. He acquired it with the aim of growing apples and raising sheep, and spent the last years of his life at his homestead near Rhodes Dam. This homestead is now the Rhodes Museum and Rhodes Nyanga Hotel

Mutarazi Falls Activities

Mutarazi Falls occur at a point where the Mutarazi River flows over the edge of the eastern escarpment of Zimbabwe’s highlands and are generally viewed by visitors from the top of the falls, a heart stopping sight, as the river flows over the cliff face 762 metres (2,499 ft.) in two almost indistinguishable tiers into the Honde Valley. the Mutarazi Falls is located in the 2,495 hectare Mutarazi National Park adjacent to the southern border of the Nyanga National Park in Zimbabwe and is administrated jointly with the Nyanga National Park.

The SkyWalk consists of two bridges – the one 30m that take you over the lip of the Falls and the other 90m that is above the entire Falls. The 2 suspension bridges are designed to look like vines above the falls allowing for the first time a full panoramic view of the Mutarazi Falls and its surroundings. If you ever dreamed of walking in midair then this is for you.

The Picturesque Pungwe Gorge & River

Flowing swiftly over the Pungwe drift, the Pungwe River falls down a series of beautiful tiers and plunges before gathering its strength in the pool and throwing itself over the main fall in a cascade of foam 240 metres (787 feet) into the densely wooded Pungwe Gorge, making it one of Nyanga’s most spectacular views.
